Sohodolls - Pitz - 15/9/2007

So you see, that's why you should go out and see bands.  We didn't know who was on the bill apart from the Sohodolls, and I only heard of them the day before when I saw them in the paper.  But the Pitz is close, friendly and great, so we went.  And all four bands were great, I couldn't fault any of them.  I REALLY should just stick up the best six or so pics of each band but I don't have that kind of critical faculty, so here they all are, all those that were more or less in focus anyway.  The bigger pictures are here.

First, Mojave Allstars, not sure about the name but they were a great opener and a pretty website.  I realised I had seen the singer a few times before and had chatted about the band, they were harder and more interesting than I expected from his description, think more NiN than Guns 'n' Roses.  Really good, go see them.

Next  The Modus Vivendi who blew me away.  Soooo much energy and how can you play while leaping about like that?  Fabulous, if you like the idea of (what I will continue to call) prog thrash.  It seems I do, you have to see them.

Then 586, who are a little hard to describe.  Look at the pictures and think a bit like The Beautiful South, maybe?  The guitarist/singer said they were pop, who am I to disagree?  Whatever you want to call them they were very interesting, very different from what we just had and as such a bit of a slow starter, but they really grew on me, and Jo was very impressed.  And with a female vocalist that's praise indeed.  Steve, sorry I didn't take more pictures, heck I took more just of the dolls keyboard player trying to be in MCR....  :-(

Finally the Sohodolls, who were pretty good too.  Actually very good at what they did, and what they did mostly was sound like about 1985.  Which is fine but we did that 20 years ago and spent the set going "ooooh, I know this one, it's Duran Duran! (or something like that)"  But they look good, know what they're doing and a lot of their audience won't have heard it before :-)
